George Corselius was editor of the Western Emigrant newspaper, started in 1829, and editor and founder of the Michigan Whig newspaper, started in 1833. He left Ann Arbor in 1849 for the California gold rush, but died of consumption en route on board the steamer Crescent City on May 10, 1849 and was buried at sea.

The George Corselius House is at 317 E. Ann Street; built in 1829 or 1830, it is one of the oldest remaining homes in Ann Arbor.

Corselius kept a circulating library, lending books for a fee from his private collection.
