After rejecting a proposal to downzone the vacant and decrepit Greek Orthodox church on Main Street before it is auctioned by the county, the Ann Arbor City Council created a new "historical blight" district to make sure the property stays exactly as-is in perpetuity.

The property - located at 414 N. Main - underwent tax foreclosure after the owners and lender Huntington Bank failed to pay back taxes by the March 31 deadline, said Washtenaw County Treasurer Catherine McClary.

Developers of The Gallery, a sidelined condominium project on North Main Street, recently submitted a request to the city of Ann Arbor for a site plan extension.

Huntington National Bank is suing North Main/Fourth Ventures LLC, the ownership entity led by Ann Arbor developer Michael Concannon; his business partner, Paul Sieben of Ohio; and 414 N. Main St. LLC, an entity led by Mel VanderBrug of Bloomfield Hills.

The planned Gallery development on North Main Street is among the projects on hold because of difficulty securing financing.
